Subsea digital and energy infrastructure is nowadays a strategic component for economic development, security, and global connectivity. The Master’s degree in Digital Subsea Infrastructure at the University of Genoa is designed to train professionals capable of operating in the authorisation, design, implementation, maintenance, and monitoring processes of geographically distributed subsea digital infrastructures.
Objectives
The Master's degree aims to train specialists in subsea digital infrastructure. Graduates will be equipped to identify, manage, and assess complex projects related to subsea cables, energy infrastructure and digital interconnection systems.
The objective is to develop highly specialised operational and coordination skills enabling participants to:
- understand the environmental factors influencing the subsea infrastructure
- analyse the design and implementation aspects of civil and maritime works
- evaluate solutions for energy and digital transmission through submarine infrastructure
- manage complex projects from a technical, economic, and regulatory perspective
- interpret the international legal framework and the geopolitical factors governing critical infrastructure.
Promoters and Partners
The Master’s degree is promoted by the Department of Naval, Electrical, Electronic and Telecommunications Engineering (DITEN) of the University of Genoa, in collaboration with the Department of Earth, Environmental and Life Sciences (DISTAV), the Department of Civil, Chemical and Environmental Engineering (DICCA), and the Department of Mechanical, Energy, Management and Transportation Engineering (DIME).
The programme stems from an industry partnership with Sparkle (TIM Group) and the SubOptic Foundation, as well as from an academic cooperation agreement with the University of California, Berkeley (USA) within the framework of the Erasmus+ KA171 Programme – Learning Mobility of Individuals.

For non-native speakers, a minimum B2 level of English language proficiency is required.

The Master’s degree trains for the Specialist Subsea Digital Infrastructure profile, a professional capable of planning, managing, supervising, and evaluating processes related to authorisation, design, construction, maintenance, repair, and monitoring geographically distributed subsea digital infrastructures.

- in public authorities and regulatory bodies
- in technical, economic, and regulatory consulting firms
- in the field of security and protection of critical infrastructure.
Awarded Qualification
Upon completion of the programme, participants are awarded a Postgraduate Master’s degree in Digital Subsea Infrastructure (60 ECTS credits).
